Dr. Gupinath Bhandari

    Dr. Bhandari has completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Bengal Engineering College,
    Shibpur, Howrah, India (Presently known as IIEST, Shibpur, Howrah), in 1990; Masters of Civil Engineering in
    Geotechnical Engineering and PhD in Coastal Engineering, from Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032, India, in
    1992 and 2003 respectively. He has provided his service industry for few years.
    He has joined as Faculty Member of School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University in 2000. Presently
    he is Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032, India.
    One of the major achievements of Dr. Bhandari is that his PhD output has been implemented at field to protect
    Digha coast, a sea resort in West Bengal, India.
    Dr. Bhandari works extensively on Disaster Management for a long time and supervised about Twenty Five
    Masters Dissertations, Four MPhil Dissertations, and Ten PhD Thesis works, so far; and numbers of
    students are working with him to complete their PhD Thesis work, on different aspects of Disaster Management.
    He addresses mainly socio-physical aspects in Disasters, including climate change, using Remote Sensing,
    Mathematical Modelling and Primary Field Measurement Data on Socio-Physical Aspects, including the
    secondary physical and social data.
    Dr. Bhandari has teaching experience for more than 21 years. He prefers multidisciplinary studies, and
    accordingly Dr. Bhandari is member of fourteen professional bodies, and he has delivered about 100 National
    Lecture and about 30 International Lecture on Civil engineering, and on different aspects of Disaster
    Management.
    Dr. Bhandari has five International collaborations on Research and Exchange Programs, and has been awarded
    Five International/ National Awards as well. Dr. Bhandari has been awarded the appointment of guest faculty in
    Norwegian University of Science and Technical (NTNU), Norway, and visiting scholar in National University of
    Singapore (NUS), Singapore, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh, Lund
    University, Sweden, ITC, Netherlands, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France.
    Dr. Bhandari has Journal Publication more than forty, in addition to that, about thirty in International and fifty in
    National Conference. In the total publications, about eighteen papers are Scopus Indexed & ‘h’ Indexed. In
    addition to this Dr. Bhandari is paper reviewer of ten journals and editor of four journals.
    Apart from the above journal and conference publications, Dr. Bhandari has published five technical reports, one
    book on “A Trainers’ Manual for Integrated Coastal Management Capacity Development”, ISBN: 0-7017-
    0156-0; http://www.envision.uk.com/downloads/ICZMtrainingmanual.pdf, in addition to these he has contributed
    in ten edited books, published by different publishers.
    With the initiative of Dr. Bhandari, Jadavpur University has established the ‘Centre for Disaster Preparedness
    & Management’ (CDPM).
    Dr. Bhandari became a renowned consulting engineer and solved a number of real world critical problems.
    Recently he has completed a consultancy job on renowned hydel power plant at Loktak and a project on utility of
    Cyclone Shelters. Also he has extended his consultancy services in huge numbers of projects on riverbank
    protection, critical slope protection in colliery belt and ash ponds at different thermal power stations in India.
