Dr. Rabindranath Bhattacharyya received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Political Science, both from the Presidency College, Kolkata under the aegis of the University of Calcutta. He was awarded M.Phil. and Ph.D. (Arts) in Political Science from the University of Calcutta. He was Awarded the Australian Government Endeavour Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, 2009 and completed his postdoctoral work from the UniSA, Adelaide, Australia. He availed the AIC Australian Studies (Senior) Visiting Fellowship 2007–2008 for visiting five universities: Curtin University, UniSA, ANU, Monash University and UNSW. He was appointed as Australia Awards Ambassador for the year 2014 – 15 by the Australian High Commissioner to India.

    Professor Bhattacharyya has been teaching courses on Public Administration and Governance at the Post Graduate level for more than three decades. His research area focuses on democratic governance with special focus on poverty alleviation and disaster management across countries. He has co-edited three books and has authored fourteen book chapters and a number of papers in both national and international journals. He has presented papers and chaired sessions in various national and international conferences / seminars spreading over eight countries other than India. He has successfully supervised Ph.D. theses of seven candidates from India and Bangladesh and acted as examiner of Ph.D. theses of various universities within and outside India.
